Retro Computing Day Event – Register Now!

Date: Saturday, March 28th, 2026 Time: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Bring Your Hardware. Bring Your Ideas.

This is a relaxed, hands-on day for anyone actively enjoying retro computing — whether you’re repairing old machines,
experimenting with code, upgrading hardware, or simply proud of a setup you want to share.

Theme (Proposed): Econet

The suggested theme for this meet-up is Econet — Acorn’s classic networking system.
If you’ve got Econet hardware, software, cables, terminators, fileservers, or memories of running it back in the day,
bring them along. Even if you’re just curious, it’s a great excuse to learn from others.

Important Registration Note

Payment for your participation in this event is done individually at the Falkirk Business Hub reception
on the event day
.
Please register here on this website to let us know you’re planning to attend, then pay on the day at reception.
The normal price is £10 (+VAT) per 4 hours of desk rental in the co-working space (the space we usually use for I.T. Crowd gatherings),
but attendees will receive a 10% discount. You can pay for the full day (09:00 to 17:00) or for a four-hour block
(I recommend the former).

What to Expect

  • Hardware Show & Tell
Bring along your classic machines and peripherals to display, discuss, and compare with other enthusiasts.
  • Econet Demos & Discussion
If there’s interest, we’ll set aside time for informal Econet show-and-tell: setups, gotchas, troubleshooting, and ideas.
  • Projects in Progress
Software experiments, hardware mods, music tools, restorations — finished or unfinished, all are welcome.
  • Collaborative Tinkering
Team up with others to explore ideas, troubleshoot issues, or dive into shared coding or hardware challenges.
  • Shared Knowledge & Experience
Swap tips, discoveries, and hard-earned lessons with people who genuinely enjoy this era of computing.
  • Repair & Upgrade Advice
Informal help and guidance on diagnosing problems or improving performance.
  • Refreshments Included
Tea, coffee, and biscuits will be available throughout the day, with lunch options at the on-site
    Finnegans Café.

Everyone Welcome

This is an open, platform-agnostic event. While Acorn systems are very much at home here, we warmly welcome
enthusiasts of Sinclair, Atari, Commodore, Amstrad, Apple, and other classic machines.
If you enjoy retro tech, you’ll fit right in.

Venue

Falkirk Business Hub
45 Vicar Street, Falkirk, FK1 1LL

The venue is just a two-minute walk from Grahamston Train Station and easily accessed from the
M9. Full lift access and disabled facilities are available. After the event, Falkirk offers plenty
of nearby bars and restaurants for those who want to continue chatting into the evening.

Parking Options

  • Weir Street Car Park – Adjacent to the venue; ideal for unloading equipment (short-stay, higher cost).
  • Melville Street Car Park – Very close; also short-stay with premium rates.
  • Garrison Place Car Park – Best value for all-day parking.

Come along for a full day of retro computing: practical tinkering, good conversation, shared enthusiasm, and a chance
to reconnect with Scotland’s growing retro community.
