Event Theme: Celebrating 3D Classics on Acorn Machines
We’re shining a spotlight on the pioneering 3D graphics that brought depth and immersion to early gaming. Feel free to bring along your copies of these games and we’ll see some of these run on the day. Got a pioneering 3D graphics game for a non Acorn machine? Then please bring along!
Key titles include:
– Elite (1984): The seminal space trading and combat simulator by David Braben and Ian Bell, renowned for its vast universe and open-ended gameplay.
– Aviator (1983): Geoff Crammond’s realistic Spitfire flight simulator, offering thrilling aerial maneuvers and dogfights.
– Revs (1984): Another Geoff Crammond masterpiece, this Formula 3 racing simulation set new standards for realism in driving games.
– 3D Tank Zone (1983): Navigate a wireframe-rendered battlefield in this first-person tank combat game.
– Chocks Away (1990): A flight combat game for the Acorn Archimedes featuring solid 3D graphics. Pilot a biplane through challenging missions and dogfights.
– Zarch (1987): Also known as “Virus,” this groundbreaking 3D action game for the Acorn Archimedes by David Braben, where you pilot a craft to eradicate an alien infection over a dynamic landscape.
– Star Fighter 3000 (1994): A cutting-edge 3D space combat game for the Acorn Archimedes, offering expansive environments and advanced graphics for its time.
